About Us

The Butcher & The Baker

Our Story is full of gluten – notttt

The Butchers & Bakers is a collaboration of years of expertise to provide our communities with sustainable nutrition and knowledge for living well. The Butchers & Bakers is a specialty market founded by experienced professionals who provide and share knowledge about whole-animal butchery and gluten-free baking – we also provide prepared foods, produce, coffee, specialty wines, charcuterie and cheeses from local farmers and distributors.

Steven Campbell – Lead Butcher

With over 40 years of dedication to the food industry, Steven’s accomplishments, experiences, and expertise are immeasurable. Steven starting working in an abattoir right out of high school where he grew an appreciation for whole-animal butchery and learned the importance of proper farming practices. He used this knowledge to grow his career and to keep standards high. Steven has accumulated numerous achievements while working for large players in the food industry, such as Publix Supermarkets and Whole Foods Market, as well as small independent shops where he refined his skills and expanded his passion for food.

Through many decades Steven has passed on his knowledge of butchery standards via workshops and consultations to corporate officers and family homesteaders alike. Steven eventually landed at Whole Foods Market back in 2017, where he was asked to lead the Bakery Team. Although the Bakery is not his expertise, Steven took the challenge and put everything he had into learning the craft of baking and nurturing his team. He developed a love for baking and appreciates when products are crafted with care. This next chapter for the Butcher/Owner of The Butchers & Bakers is a collaborative effort of his understanding of best business practices, with his passion for proper butchery and baking techniques.

Marissa Stahl-Hodgkins – Lead Baker

From a very young age, Marissa always knew that baking was her passion. Marissa graduated high school in Scarborough, Maine where she cultivated her interest in baking. She reviewed multiple culinary programs on the east coast and then decided on Southern New Hampshire University because she felt she would receive the most diverse college experience there.  Since graduating from SNHU with a Bachelor of Science in Culinary Management and an Associate of Science in Baking and Pastry Arts, Marissa’s impact on the food industry has exceeded expectations.

Marissa, whose diet is strictly gluten-free, has achieved an elevated depth of knowledge through necessity compared to others who do not have dietary restrictions. Marissa quickly rose to the rank of Bakery Team Leader with Whole Foods Market when she accepted a series of promotions which eventually landed her in Nashua, New Hampshire. This new chapter for the Baker/Majority Owner of The Butchers & Bakers is a culmination of Marissa’s leadership and professional management experiences where she can craft bread and European Styled Pastries for the dietary restricted in her home state’s community.
